Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

One of the contradictions of making mineral supplements is to be found in the usage of chemicals rather than the use of natural products. But the increasing demand for natural vitamin supplements looks like a trend growing with little help. The question is, how harmful are these supplements if at all and this just throws up endless debates.

One of the basic facts you should know concerning mineral vitamin supplements is that they aren’t as easily absorbed as the normal food particles are. More and more research is going into creating products that are friendlier to the body and hence more beneficial. Every now and then the industry comes up with a new ‘more bio-available’ form of a vitamin or mineral. In order to overcome this, there have been large quantities of vitamins and minerals that have been developed which includes other elements which give them the ability to be easily absorbed by the body. Commonly, iron is combined to create iron gluconate which is known to allow the supplement to be absorbed easily by the body.

The proportion of the nutrients in the vitamin supplement should be relatively higher that it would be found in natural form and only when the proportion is high the body will be able to assimilate the quantity that is really necessary for the body. However, this could also result in larger quantities of the mineral being absorbed than is needed resulting in toxic levels. This is why it is so important that one must consult with a health professional before ingesting large quantities of supplements touted in advertisements. The mineral vitamin supplement industry is constantly improving and developing forming new combinations that will really work.

A common method used by manufacturers for ready absorption is using yeast cells to culture the raw materials. This type of supplements is called ‘food state’.

Of course, the need for mineral vitamin supplements depends on the diet that each person has. Beyond any doubt, natural food is the best way to supply the body with the required nutrients rather than using chemical supplements. Long term use of supplements is not recommended.
